FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
If I had recently gotten the COVID Vaccine, Can I get my lips done?
• Because the vaccine is still very new and we don't know the side effects and reaction it might have with permanent makeup as it is still considered an open wound and foreign substances are entering the body, the vaccine might try to fight it and cause an allergic reaction
• We suggest you reschedule your appointment or book 2 weeks after you are getting your vaccine
Is Lip Blush the right technique for me?
• If you are someone who has pale lips, dark lips, allergic to lipstick, have fillers, lost definition in your lips, wanting fuller lips, then this is a great procedure for you
• Although this will not look like your favourite lipstick, it produces more of a nude / lip tint result
• Everybody’s skin takes the tattoo differently. We start light and can build colour during touch up
How long does Lip Blush last?
• The retention of the lip tattoo depends on different factors such as the colour you choose, your lifestyle, touch ups, and how you care for them before and after your appointment
• On average, lip blush lasts anywhere from 1-3 years, with most people wanting a touch up yearly.
• Some of these factors can cause lip blush to fade faster:
- Smoking
- Long sun exposure without SPF
- Oily skin
- Iron deficiency
- Exfoliants
Is it painful?
• Lips are one of the most sensitive areas in the body. The skin is very thin
• Everyone has a different response to pain. This is a cosmetic tattoo that uses a needle so discomfort and mild pain is expected
• If you are extremely sensitive and have a strong fear of needles, this cosmetic procedure is not good for you
• Bruising CAN happen if improper pre care is not followed
• Pain level has been reported by my clients around 4-6 / 10. You make take Tylenol 1 an hour before PMU appointment if needed..
• We apply topical numbing only on open skin throughout the process to alleviate any discomfort and make it more comfortable for you but there can still be pain as anesthetics work better on some people than others
• You may feel sore after the procedure when the numbing cream wears off but it isn't unbearable
PLEASE NOTE: Having this service performed during your menstrual cycle may increase discomfort during your procedure. It increases pain sensitivity. If you are a frequent smoker, the topical anesthetics used during the treatment will not last as long. If you have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, be aware that this may affect your sensitivity tolerance to the procedure.
What is the healing process like?
• Some swelling, tenderness, slight bruising can occur after the procedure but this is normal and can last a few days depending on your lip sensitivity
• There is a chance your lips may look like you got lip fillers but this will subside in 48 hours or so
• The healing process for dark lip neutralization is different than regular lip blush. Check out the Pre/post care page for more information
• The healing process may vary per person but on average, it is about 7 days for the scabbing. It can take several weeks for the colour to fully blossom and can go through a transition of colors before the desired colour appears. Especially for lip neutralization
WILL this procedure trigger COLD SORES?
Lip Blush may trigger cold sores or carriers of the herpes simplex virus. To prevent this from occurring, it is highly recommended to take antiviral medication prescribed from your family doctor such as Zorivax 5 days prior, day of, and 5 days after your procedure even if you have never had cold sores before. NO EXCEPTIONS
What to expect during the healing process.
The first day, your lips will be swollen and will produce lymph. We advise all clients to blot every hour for the first day and reapply healing ointment every hour or else your lips will be very chapped and dry.
DAY 1 – Lips will be swollen and very bright/vibrant
DAY 2 – Swelling will go down and lips will go darker
DAY 3 – Lips will start to peel/scab (don’t ever pick) It will be very dry.
DAY 4 – Peeling continues
DAY 5-7 - All peeling is gone. Lips can still feel very dry. Continue ointment
Lip colour will slowly show in the next few weeks. Be patient with the process.
Can I still get lip fillers?
• Yes. Getting lip blush doesn't interfere, but it must be at least 5 weeks apart from each other.
Can we go outside of the lip line?
• No. The skin on the lips is not the same as on the face and things can look unnatural and get unpredictable when we tattoo too far outside the natural lip line. We draw the shape based on your natural lips. We are not changing your lip shape, but simply enhancing and creating a more crisp shape.
• We stop once we see the pores on the skin.
How is the colour chosen?
• We advise everyone to bring in their favourite lipstick/lip gloss colour that they use every day and we will try to mix colours to get as close to it as possible. It is not recommended to in bright red as this will not be your everyday colour.
• There is no set colour for everyone. The same colour/mixture used on another person will be different on you as everyones lip undertone is different and unique to them.
• For dark lip neutralization, you won’t be able to choose the colour in the first session. The first session is purely neutralization. Depending on how dark your lips are and how they heal, we will either do your touch up session at 8 weeks or 12 weeks. The next few sessions will depend on how they healed and how much of the darkness was lifted. Once we have neutralized the lips back to a pink tone then we can go ahead and proceed with your desired colour.
LIP NEUTRALIZATION
If your lips are discoloured in any way, brown, cool, dark-toned, hyperpigmented, or melanin-rich, and you wish to get lip blush, you MUST neutralized them first. There is no exception. You must submit photos before booking your appointment so we can approve.
The initial session can range anywhere using bright orange/yellow colours to neutralize your lips. They will NOT heal orange/yellow.
Please keep in mind that neutralization is a process and requires patience. Multiple sessions are required and you will be charged for the extra fees. Touch ups are not included. Each session can take anywhere from 8-12 weeks apart.
Is it possible that I may not retain any pigment at all?
Yes. This does and can happen to some. We cannot predict how skin reacts and heals. Often times, a third appointment is required at the so we can review the work and see what adjustments need to be made
• Some clients skin may react to trauma of the tattoo and skin may try to push out the foreign body of the pigment by producing extreme scabbing, so the pigment will eventually disappear with the scabbing. There is a condition called Pigment Allergy (PPD Allergy, a condition known by dermatologist) or Auto Immune Disease symptoms (client may not even be aware of it). The skin would have over-reacted and become super sensitive to the pigment and will reject it once skin heals
• Every clients skin is different and healing varies per client, this service is never guaranteed and more than 1 or 2 touchups may be required at the clients expense
Is it really necessary for touch ups?
• This will depend on your preference. The first appointment is about structure, design, and building a layer of layer of pigment for a very natural look and a more defined shape
• Keep in mind that lip blush will fade about 40-50% once healed
• Do not expect perfection after one session. Touch up for lips are highly recommended, especially if it was a neutralization session
• Generally, we recommend a touch up 6 weeks following the initial session to fill in areas that may not have healed properly or patchy. 8-12 Weeks if your lips have darkness and required neutralization.
• If you are opting for a bolder, brighter look, or need more layering for dimension, then a second touch-up session is recommended to layer more pigment into your skin
• Some may need a 3rd or 4th session to complete the process.

We take our health and safety very seriously.
We always wear new disposable gloves while working each client and all of our equipment is disinfected with Preempt Wipes which are hospital grade cleaners. Those tools that are not disposable will be washed and soaked in Barbicide
